History

In 1956 the school consisted of both primary and secondary schools. The separation took place in 1964, and from that time the school has existed as a separate unit. Comparing to other secondary schools in Wrocław, the number of students attending has always been small (from around 200 to 850 today; aged 16-19 years old). However, this has always helped to create family atmosphere among students, and facilitate the learning process.

For the first four years of its existence the school had no name; on 3rd December 1960 it was called with the name of the first Polish King - Bolesław Chrobry. Within a year time Amelia Irena Hanzlówna – a Polish poet - wrote the school's anthem. Ten years later, a parent-teacher association established the standard.

For many years, one of the school's main problem was the lack of sports field. The building process started in 1962 and lasted for the four consecutive years. Both the teachers and the students worked shoulder to shoulder. They managed to clear the area of debris, built the racetrack and the rifle-range.

Students have always taken part in after-school activities. The most unforgettable circles of interest were: "The Gadabout's Association", "The Circle of Music Lovers", "The Circle of Theatre Lovers" and "The Barricade XII". Today, a wide range of after-lesson activities allows students to broaden their knowledge and interests. They can develop their skills in music, theatre, art, science, languages and sports. All this helps them to successfully perform within many regional, national and even international competitions.

In 1997, the school's building was destroyed by flood. However, thanks to the help of several sponsors, the city authorities and the parents of students, the cellar was rebuilt and reconstructed and new classes were arranged in the attic.
Today, there are around 65 teachers employed, whose job is not only to prepare students both for Matura exam (the final exam) and entrance exams at higher educational level, but also to teach them co-operation, rules of fair play, tolerance and responsibility. They get their students involved in many projects and students’ school exchanges that help stimulate self-development and understanding towards different nations, religions and beliefs. Our partners are schools from Germany, France, Holland and Great Britain.

The school is one of the leading secondary schools in Wroclaw and our graduates successfully enter studies at higher educational level both in Poland and abroad, building up the elite of our city.
